Detail Info/Spec’s on Eccentric Chucks and Collet Chuck, used for the:

“Rock-A-Bye Box” & “3rd Axis in Motion” (designed by: Mark St.Leger)

Collet Chuck:

Start with a 2 ½” sq. x 24” block, rip a saw kerf down the center of one side.  Then cut ½” slices on Miter Saw.  Mount between centers and turn a tenon for your chuck.  Mount in chuck and turn the opening to fit your needs, place your piece in the collet chuck and tighten the chuck so the collet has a firm grip on your work piece.  (Note: use only for small items).

(2 axis) Eccentric Chuck (for 1/8” off-center finial):

Start with a 2 ½” sq. x 1 ½” block. Mark centers on both ends, on one end measure over from center 1/8” (for off-center).  Mount between centers and turn your piece round, also turn a tenon for center work.  Move the tailstock end to the 1/8” mark and turn a 2nd tenon for off center work.  Mount into your chuck using the center tenon, turn a bullnose shape and bore a ½” hole thru the piece (for knocking out the blank when your finished).

(3 axis) Eccentric Chuck (for 3/16” & 5/16” off-center):

Start with a 2 ½” sq. x 1 ½” block. Mark centers on both ends, on one end measure over from center 3/16” & 5/16” (for off-center).  Mount between centers and turn your piece round, also turn a tenon for center work.  Move the tailstock end to the 3/16” mark and turn a 2nd tenon for off center work.  Now move the tailstock end to the 5/16” mark and turn the 3rd tenon.  Mount into your chuck using the center tenon, turn a bullnose shape and bore a 1” hole thru the piece (for knocking out the blank when your finished).

Note: These jigs (chuck adaptors) are saved and used time and again.  Enjoy!!
